Hello parents!
It is almost time for our annual Scholastic Book Fair! As many of you already know, our book fair raises over $5000 (almost $6000 last year!) for our teachers to buy books and educational supplies for their classrooms. We do this by taking Scholastic Dollars as our benefit based upon our total sales, which last year was about $11,000!!! PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER! http://signup.com/go/fRTWkhN This year, we are looking to pair our book fair with Scholastic's "All for Books" charitable giving, and help those schools devastated by the recent hurricanes in Florida and Texas. Normally, the money collected is just the loose change some students donate after their purchase. We then use that to buy books for our library and to purchase "All for Books" books, which Scholastic then donates a matching book to underprivileged schools, up to one million dollars in books donated!! This year, they are focusing their efforts on hurricane damaged schools. Instead of us purchasing the books this year, we will be donating our "All for Books" money to Scholastic, who will be matching it, dollar for dollar. They will then use those funds to help schools replace their lost books. Last year, we only collected about $45 dollars to purchase these charitable books. This year, we would like to collect a greater amount as we feel this would be a wonderful opportunity for our school to help a hurricane devastated school. We will be matched by Scholastic with a school(s), and have an opportunity to be in touch with them. We are asking that any family that would like to make a donation, to please send it in with your child during the book fair, marked " All for Books." Mrs. Ragoza and the PTO feel that this is an opportunity for us to give back to those devasted by the hurricanes in a way that is more tangible for our kids than simply sending a donation to a charity. They will have a chance to learn what school they helped, and can understand what it would be like to go to school with no books. No donation is too small, and no donation is required. We simply wanted to make parents aware of this opportunity, should you be looking for a way to help. Comments are closed.
