Dear Bedminster Township School Families,
Welcome Back to School! There is much to look forward to in 2017-18. Board members and Chair people are working diligently to ensure another wonderful year for the children at BTS. This year, we will make great strides to enhance the educational experience of every BTS child, including: Teacher grants, the 2nd Annual Books & Buddies Café. School wide programs, to include “Think Kindness”, a challenge to perform 5,000 acts of kindness in 15 days and “The Earth Dome” focusing on education about our Earth, land masses, oceans and how to take care of it. There will be assemblies for Black History Month and Women’s History Month as well as a performance of Macbeth by the Shakespeare Theater of NJ. We will arrange author visits in person and via skype with a variety of authors for all grades and the 7th grade will experience a Broadway show. We will continue to fund transportation for field trips and educational experiences.
With the funds raised in 2016-17, the PTO gifted a Gaga pit to the school. BTS Dads and kids lovingly assembled it and it is an awesome addition to the playground for everyone to enjoy! Another gift was for a Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) system proven to improve literacy achievement of struggling readers with engaging leveled books and fast paced systematically designed lessons.
Our PTO will continue to work with the community to promote "kindness" within Somerset Hills. We take an active role in "Community in Crisis" through learning how to educate parents and students about drug abuse and addiction and the impact of social media on students and family life today.
Future endeavors of the PTO include bringing Melinda Jennis back for sensitivity training through the "Include Me" movement, which emphasizes what people with special needs "can do" and not what they "can't do". In January 2018, we will collaborate with Somerset Hills to sponsor speaker, Dr. Michael Bradley, “CRAZY-STRESSED: SAVING TODAY'S OVERWHELMED TEENS WITH LOVE, LAUGHTER, AND THE SCIENCE OF RESILIENCE”.Our organization will continue to support "green initiatives" such as student design projects to promote healthy lifestyles, environmental awareness and sustainability.
I am honored to be part of the PTO, they are motivated and dedicated people and I hope that you will enthusiastically support all their efforts in 2017-18.
